Proper off-season operation of Kubota mini excavators

How to properly store your Kubota mini excavator outside of the active season

Proper storage of your Kubota mini excavator during the off-season helps to maintain its technical condition, prevent wear and tear on parts and ensure that it is ready for use in the new season. Here are the main recommendations for effective storage.

1. Preparation for storage

Before leaving the mini excavator for a long period of time, it is necessary to prepare it:

- Cleaning: Thoroughly clean the machine from dirt, dust, soil and oil residues. Pay particular attention to the tracks, bucket and under the hood.

- Inspection: Check the condition of the parts, paying attention to wear, cracks or other damage that should be repaired before storage.

2. Maintenance of the systems

- Engine: Fill the tank with fuel and add a stabiliser to prevent sedimentation. Afterwards, run the engine for a few minutes to allow the stabiliser to be distributed through the system.

- Oil and filters: Change the engine oil, hydraulic fluid and all filters. This will prevent corrosion and wear.

- Battery: Remove the battery, clean the terminals, and store it in a cool, dry place. For long-term storage, recharge the battery periodically.

3. Protection against weather conditions

- Storage location: store the machine in a dry place with adequate ventilation. If this is not possible, cover the mini excavator with a special waterproof cover to protect it from moisture and direct sunlight.

- Crawler tracks: loosen the tension on the tracks to prevent them from stretching during storage.

- Corrosion protection: Apply an anti-corrosion agent to exposed metal surfaces that are prone to rusting.

4. Scheduled inspection during storage

Even if the equipment is not in use, it is recommended to check its condition periodically. Inspect the lubrication system, fuel tank and tracks to ensure that there are no signs of wear or damage.

5. Preparing for the new season

Before returning the mini excavator to active use:

- Check the level of oil, fluids and battery charge.

- Perform a full inspection or contact a Kubota certified service centre.

- Tighten the tracks again to working condition.
